What a fantastic result on Saturday up Butt Lane for WEG volunteers and members of Great Wilbraham Parish Council!

20 hardy souls turned out to plant 900 "whips" i.e. young plants on three of the boundaries of the parish land, the first step to creating a mixed woodland/grassland area for us all to enjoy.

We were fuelled with cake, flapjack and hot drinks and worked really hard on a bitterly cold but dry day. All the plants are staked and protected with collars.

The next step – when we have funding – is to erect deer-proof fencing on all the boundaries and to build a simple roofed shelter, to collect rainwater. By this autumn we hope to be planting lots of trees.
