Volunteers Needed
Fulbourn Community Car Scheme Could you help to provide this facility for those who have no alternative mode of transport?
Published: 20 January 2026
Fulbourn Community Car Scheme offers door to door transport to residents of Fulbourn, Teversham and the Wilbrahams who do not have the use of a car, and struggle to use public transport.
In the last 12 months, they have carried out 419 journeys, taking passengers to hospital appointments, GP surgeries, for physiotherapy, dental treatment, to opticians and chiropodists.
Sadly, in the past year, they have been forced to turn people away almost 30 times, because no driver was available to make the journey.
They are looking for more volunteers to offer their services to avoid this happening. They are particularly keen to recruit volunteers who live in Great or Little Wilbraham.
Could you help?
They do not expect a regular commitment. When a request is received, volunteer drivers are contacted, and you can decide if you have the time to help or not.
No special skills are required. Volunteers undergo an enhanced DBS check, which they arrange through the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority at no cost to you, and you should have a full driving licence, and use of a car which you are fully insured to drive.
They can guarantee that you will meet some very interesting people!
The passenger will reimburse your expenses of £3.00 for a journey of up to 10 miles and 30p for each subsequent mile. The Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority provide an additional 15p per mile travelled. Any further expenses, for example car parking fees, will also be reimbursed.
If you have some time, and would like to volunteer with us, they would be delighted to hear from you.
